After the request for registration of the Local Accommodation establishment is made (prior communication with deadline) may occur, within 30 days of order, inspections by the City Councils, with the aim of ensuring that the establishment respects all legal obligations:
• Fire extinguisher;
• Fire blanket;
• First aid kit;
• Information about availability of complaints book;
• Information book of the establishment in 4 languages;
• Acrylic identification plate AL.
If the survey has missing points, the registration number may not be assigned.
Local accommodation establishments can also be inspected by the ASAE (Food and Economic Security Authority) and the competent city council, within the scope of inspection actions, to verify compliance with Decree-Law No. 128/2014 of 29 August establishing the legal regime for the operation of local accommodation establishments.
Turismo de Portugal IP can inspect local accommodation establishments to see if they have the conditions to be considered tourist developments.
These surveys are carried out at the request of ASAE, or at the initiative of Turismo de Portugal IP itself in cases where the same operator is the owner of more than 9 establishments.
When Turismo de Portugal IP verifies that the establishment of local accommodation meets the requirements to be considered a tourism enterprise, a period of no less than 30 days, which can be extended, is initiated, so that the process of authorization for use for legally required tourism purposes can be started.
At the end of this period without the responsible entity having initiated the authorization process, Turismo de Portugal IP informs ASAE for the purpose of banning exploration.
Turismo de Portugal IP can also inspect local accommodation establishments, at the request of ASAE, in order to verify the update of the list of local accommodation establishments for the purpose of registering on the electronic booking platforms.
