Turismo de Portugal created a seal (Clean & Safe) that aims to distinguish companies from tourist activities that meet the hygiene and cleaning requirements to prevent possible infections, in order to reinforce tourist confidence in the destination.
Tourist enterprises, tourist entertainment companies and travel agencies registered with Turismo de Portugal may request the declaration as “Clean & Safe” establishment, but to do so, they must ensure that they meet certain requirements.
The tourism authority has developed this health seal, which certifies that the infrastructures meet the health requirements.
The “Clean & Safe” seal is ordered online and the establishments are subject to audits.
This recognition is valid for one year, is free and optional, and requires the implementation of an internal protocol in companies that, according to the recommendations of the Directorate-General for Health, ensures the necessary hygiene to avoid risks of contagion and guarantees safe procedures for the operation of tourist activities.
What are the requirements to guarantee this seal?
The requirements differ by type of establishment and tourist activity.
There are specific criteria for tourism enterprises, tourism animation companies (AAT), with or without physical facilities, and for travel agencies, with or without physical facilities.
For tourist developments, these are some of the criteria that establishments will have to meet:
- Personal protective equipment in sufficient numbers for all workers;
- Personal protective equipment available to customers (maximum capacity of the
establishment); - Stock of cleaning materials for single use proportional to their dimensions, including
single-use cleaning wipes moistened with disinfectant, bleach and alcohol at 70º; - Dispensers of alcohol-based antiseptic solution or alcohol-based solution together
the entry / exit points, and whenever applicable by floor, at the restaurant entrance,
bar and common sanitary facilities; - Waste container with non-manual opening and plastic bag.

Who wants to obtain the seal “Clean & Safe Establishment”Must comply with the set of provisions contained in the“Declaration of Commitment»That will be available on Turismo de Portugal's digital platforms regarding the registration of tourist companies:
- RNET (National Register of Tourist Enterprises)
- RNAAT (National Register of Tourist Entertainment Agents)
- RNAVT (National Register of Travel and Tourism Agents)
The seal will always be associated with the entity's registration number.
Only after being subjected to Declaration of Commitment on the part of the companies, is that they have the possibility to use the Seal in question, either in their physical facilities, or in the channels and platforms of dissemination and sale.
Soon companies from other areas of activity will be able to access this seal through the Balcão do Empreendedor (ePortugal.gov.pt).
